5 Star Campground Reviews – January 2017

By Campendium

One hundred forty campgrounds received 5 star reviews in January. Check out the highlights below:

Fort Desoto County Park – St. Petersburg, FL

Sites are lush and fairly private, lots of birds and lizards. This is one of our favorite campgrounds in Florida. – Aluminarium

R Shaefer Heard – LaGrange, GA

The sites have crushed gravel and no mud. They are very large and very clean. The view from many of the sites are beautifully picturesque. – SteveTam9310

Crystal Cove State Park – Laguna Beach, CA

On our last day, we took our time getting out of there because we really wanted to enjoy it as long as we could. This is probably one of the best places we’ve stayed so far, but it’s hard to beat ocean views. – 4airstreamers

St. Andrews State Park – Panama City, FL

Unlike many parks that have just a few prime sites, I don’t think you could have gone wrong with any of the many waterfront sites at St. Andrews. – Teddi & Roger

Tarryall CR-31 Area – Lake George, CO

Great view of the surrounding mountains in these sites.Established fire rings in the loops, mostly level sites, usually go pretty quick on a weekend, but few people out here during the week. – Kamping Keith

Snow Canyon State Park – St. George, UT

Snow Canyon is a gorgeous state park, and the campground is excellent to match. Park staff was very helpful, campground was impeccably clean. Views are incredible! – Sara

Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area – Laughlin, NV

We extended day after day , as we hated to leave. The sites are large and spread out. There are hiking trails and geocaches in the park. It was a joy to be here. – Loup407

Alabama Hills Recreation Area – Lone Pine, CA

Alabama Hills was a really great boondocking location! There were gigantic boulders and rocks in all sorts of formations, literally everywhere! – Life Among Pines

airstream amongst the wild open expanses of the Big Bend region of West Texas
Stewarts Point – Overton, NV

Came here to get out of Vegas for the New Year and avoid the fireworks for the pup. This place is close to the water, FREE and quiet. – earthquake5683

Huerta Don Chano RV Park – Mulege, BCS, Mexico

Unlike most of RV parks here there is lots of folage including trees, plants, etc. so it feels more intimate than setting up in those sand RV parks. – ellen

Jacob Lake Campground – Jacob Lake, AZ

This is a nice clean campground, with vault toilets and drinking water available. You should make reservations as this area near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is very popular. – RetiredVagabond

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – Lake Buena Vista, FL

We were expecting a great time and this surpassed our expectations in every way. Crazy expensive nightly rate, but with it came free transportation and parking at the parks and everywhere Disney. – barrygoodtimes

Palm Canyon – Quartzsite, AZ

Think the polar opposite of Quartzite, open space peaceful tranquil surrounding with panoramic views in all directions and virtually no crowds. – RobertT

Lake Jennings Park – Lakeside, CA

This is a great campground I’ve stayed at 3 times while visiting San Diego. Also, you don’t feel like you’re in the city at all when you stay here, with open green hills all around. – AZ_Kit

Bledsoe Creek State Park – Gallatin, TN

It seems as if great strides have been made to make this park compliant to ADA guidelines and it shows in the spacious pull through paved sites and smooth walkways available for hikers with disabilities. – YC

Open Pond Recreation Area – Andalusia, AL

Great little gem of a park off the beaten path. Several trails for hiking but they weren’t marked well. Wonderful wide site that backed up to the pond. – Onlytherocks

Fort Clinch State Park – Fernandina Beach, FL

We have a big rig and although we like the beach side, we actually prefer the river side because the sites are more private. Site 30 is awesome! It’s very spacious and private. – ketah777

Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan – Santa Barbara, CA

Ocean Mesa is in my top two favorite places. Prices are a little steep but it’s well worth it for the cleanliness and what the campground has to offer. – megmfish3

Aguirre Spring Campground – Las Cruces, NM

We found this BLM property when looking for somewhere to stay close to White Sands NM and it was perfect! Added bonus are the two trails that leave right from the campground! – Partylikeits1995

Dead Horse Ranch State Park – Cottonwood, AZ

Enjoyed some of the park trails, but more so, discovering Cottonwood, AZ and this area. Lots to see and do for just about everyone. OffnonRV

Union Grove Park – Salado, TX

Each spacious site includes a picnic table with cover, fire ring, lantern pole, asphalt pad and in many cases an asphalt parking space separate from the camper pad. Most sites are right on the lake with nice views. – Robin

Wedge Overlook – Emery, UT

The fact that these spots are free is amazing and incomprehensible to me. Our view was unbelievable and the sunrises/sets were magnificent. – Cheico
