5 Star Campground Reviews – March 2017

By Campendium

One two hundred forty one campgrounds received 5 star reviews in March. Check out the highlights below:

McHood Park – Winslow, AZ

This was a bit off the beaten path but totally worth it for several nights of free camping in a beautiful spot. – Wanderland Travelers

Brooklyn Lake Campground – Centennial, WY

What it lacks in amenities (no hookups, showers or dump station on site), it makes up for in views, easy access to trails, fishing with a Wyoming License, of course, and a very clean vault toilets. – Frank & Krista

Red Gate Campground & RV Resort – Savannah, GA

It turned about to be a perfect little gem very close to downtown Savannah! Think chickens, roosters, horses, goats, geese and peacocks! – Partylikeits1995

Silurian Dry Lake Bed – Baker, CA

This place hit on all the things we love in a campsite: plenty of privacy, access to hiking/exploring, and free! – AudreyAirstream

Curry Hammock State Park – Marathon, FL

This our favorite state park in the Keys because it has a great beach feel. It’s the newest park, too, and all 3 sites we were in were perfectly level. – DriveDiveDevour

Gunter Hill Campground – Montgomery, AL

Our site was clean, including the fire pit! It was wide and long enough to handle both our TV and TT, with plenty of room to spare. – Waldo’s Wanderings

Crawford Landing – Slidell, LA

All in all I had a great time here. Would recommend this area to anyone, especially if you want to fish or check out the bayou. – glasgows_onthego

Schoolhouse Campground – Roosevelt, AZ

My spot had a beautiful view of the lake and mountains on both the east and west sides which made for gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. – Ant Bee

Borrego Palm Canyon Campground – Borrego Springs, CA

This is a well maintained gem in the Anza Borrego State Park. Amazing views of the mountains and desert make you think you’re out in the wilderness. – The Bees

Bolivar Flats Free Beach – Bolivar Peninsula, TX

This was our 1st time boondocking…EVER! This beachfront camping was an amazing 1st impression =)
– GoWithTheFlow&Co.

Lone Pine Campground – Lone Pine, CA

The proximity to Mt. Whitney is tough to beat and the campground views by far are the main selling point of the campground. – Partylikeits1995

Valley of the Gods – Mexican Hat, UT

Don’t go to Valley Of The Gods to boondock, because I don’t want it to be crowded next time I’m driving through. – Rv Chickadee

Campo Turistico #1 – San Felipe, BC, Mexico

Tranquil quiet park located north of downtown San Felipe past the RV parks. Nice Mexican family runs the place; they prepare meals on request. – ellen

Buckhorn Creek – Jefferson, TX

Right on the lake with great view from my living room. Daytime noise was as expected for a full campground on a Spring Break weekend. At night it was very quiet. – Laura Montgomery

Nolan Tank – Sedona, AZ

It’s well located between Sedona and Cottonwood (about 25 min drive from each) and 12 minutes from great biking and hiking trails. – Road it up

American Girl Mine Road – Winterhaven, CA

We will definitely be back to this area. It is the perfect place for a quiet get away or a group get together. – 33andfree

Bonita Canyon Campground – Willcox, AZ

The access to hiking was the best park of the campground for us. We opted to drive to the top and trekked “the big loop” which is a 9ish mile RT hike through the best of Chiricahua’s rock formations. – Partylikeits1995

Saddle Mountain Ranch – Carmel, CA

My beautifully landscaped full hookup site had a picnic table and a grill. It is quiet and relaxing. – Kalamazookim

Tuskegee Primitive Camp #10 – Tuskegee, AL

Overall, it’s a great spot for free dry camping. We could have stayed an entire week. – makerlight

Joe Skeen Campground – Acoma Pueblo, NM

The campground had awesome scenery with sandstone cliffs. Besides the fire ring, our site had a pedestal grill & a large picnic table. Pretty nice for free! – BZB Breslins

Doran Regional Park – Bodega Bay, CA

Right on the water, beach access, really beautiful. The first day it was windy but the 2nd day it was perfect.
I would definitely recommend, especially mid-week. – HitchTheCasita

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area – Flagler Beach, FL

This site is easily 6 stars with the beach path on the driver side and the neighbor on the passenger side was 50′ away giving us lots of space. – Nosh Bus
