Every month, we publish the best places to camp according to reviews submitted by the Campendium community. When campgrounds started closing over six weeks ago, it suddenly wasn’t appropriate to promote travel.

While travel restrictions are still in place and recreational camping is not advisable, we are getting reports from the road as people travel home or settle in at a campground for a long-term stay. Two hundred fifty-seven of those campgrounds received 5-star reviews in April!

I mainly just wanted to say thanks for helping everyone stay informed about this mess we are all going through right now. I also wanted to see if the Wednesday top 5 email will be coming back. It is truly the highlight of my work week. – Daral

Perfect temperature hot springs, and great mountain vistas. I stayed here April 2020, and it was perfect. Sunny, not too hot, not too cold. – Bltierney

This campground is the definitions of lush, beautiful, natural Florida! Almost every site is surrounded by gorgeous palms and trees to host your hammock. – The Taste For Adventure
Gardner Canyon Road camping Arizona
Gardner Canyon Road | Coronado National Forest – Sonoita, AZ
There are some really pretty sites here nestled under cottonwoods in the canyon and well protected from the wind. – Patbarb
Joe Skeen Campground
Joe Skeen Campground | El Malpais National Conservation Area – Grants, NM
Easily accessible with great sites. Covered picnic areas and some sites have spectacular views. I would go back again anytime. – Lveloz
Camping Colibri sur Mer
Camping Colibri sur Mer | RV Park – Caraquet, NB, Canada
We visited this area in order to explore the far northwest tip of New Brunswick. The spaces on the beachfront are without services, so we opted for one just off of the beach. – runswithdogs
Forest Road 689 free camping
Forest Road 689 | Coconino National Forest – Rimrock, AZ
Great area to hike around there is a creek about a mile to the south. Views here are beautiful with some red rocks and dirt as Sedona is only 17 miles away. – Sancarlosmx
Raysville Campground
Raysville Campground | County Park – Thomson, GA
Our site was right on the water. It was clean, level and staff was very friendly. We are definitely going back this summer when things open back up. – Kevinjahearn

Sunset Point on Lake LBJSunset Point on Lake LBJ | RV Park – Marble Falls, TX

This campground is amazing. We stayed in a cocina site with a beautiful view of the lake and sunset. This site has a fabulous outdoor kitchen and patio. – brigit79

Cajun Country RV Park
Cajun Country RV Park – Morgan City, LA
We stayed here one night, February 22, 2020 and wished we could have stayed for a full week! We chose this campground so we could go to Morgan City’s Mardi Gras celebrations. – ldouglas
Wildhaven Sonoma RV Park
Wildhaven Sonoma | RV Park – Healdsburg, CA
This one one of the most amazing and beautiful pieces of property in all of Sonoma County (Healdsburg/Alexander Valley Region). You can’t ask for a better spot smack dab in the wine country. – Littlehooley
Glenwood Canyon Resort
Glenwood Canyon Resort | RV Park – Glenwood Springs, CO
This place was gorgeous on the banks of the Colorado River. Very nice gravel sites with full hook ups and incredible views. – La Gitana
Howard Stafford Park Campground
Howard Stafford Park Campground | City Park – Pontotoc, MS
Great city park. We stayed here 3 weeks during the covid lockdown. Great little park and friendly staff. Sites are concrete, but not completely level. – Jerryss
Fairview Riverside State Park
Fairview Riverside State Park | Louisiana State Park – Madisonville, LA
This is only one of Louisiana’s beautiful state parks and a relaxing spot to use as a home base for those wanting to visit the city of New Orleans. – MyAngel
Parowan Gap Petroglyphs
Parowan Gap Petroglyphs | BLM – Cedar City, UT

There is plenty of boondocking in this area. Nice wide open spaces. I spent 2 nights inside the gap and enjoyed the sunsets and sunrises. – AvionAwesome

Lefleur's Bluff State Park
Lefleur’s Bluff State Park | Mississippi State Park – Jackson, MS

I wish we could have stayed longer because it was fantastic. Very peaceful sites next to a nice lake. I would highly recommend this park. – Terry&Becky

Walnut Hills Campground & RV Park
Walnut Hills Campground & RV Park | RV Park – Staunton, VA

Walnut Hills is a beautiful campground in a great location. Downtown historical Staunton is minutes away with great restaurants, local ice cream shops, museums, and lots to do. Shenandoah National Park is also nearby. – Fred&Lourdes
