8 New Campgrounds and Glampgrounds We’re Excited for in 2022

From a supercool yurt among the pine trees of West Georgia to a lakeside RV resort in Key West, 2022 is bringing plenty of new and unique ways to go camping in the U.S. Traditional campgrounds are aiming for new levels of luxury and accommodation options and are catering to RVers and nature enthusiasts ready to relax after special outdoor experiences.

Here are eight of the hottest upcoming campgrounds and glampgrounds to check out in 2022.

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Cabana Cabins, Auburndale, Florida—Opening January 2022

Located in Central Florida an hour southwest of Orlando and just outside of Lakeland, Camp Margaritaville RV Resort will offer 183 RV sites, including 11 “Super Premium” RV sites, and 60 cabana cabins with full kitchens for those looking for the outdoor resort experience without an RV.

Its location is ideal to get away to all the parks and attractions that the Sunshine State is known for. When not exploring, take in the tiki bar and fire pits, resort pool, or onsite entertainment. Camp Margaritaville also has an arcade, putting course, playground, dog parks, and even a grooming station for your pup.

Pine Mountain RV Resort, Pine Mountain, Georgia—Opening Early 2022

Pine Mountain RV Resort, part of RVC Outdoor Destinations, is nestled in the pine forests of West Georgia, just 3 miles from the beautiful Callaway Gardens, which is known for its acres of flora and trails. Pet-friendly Pine Mountain will offer cabin rentals, tent camping, RV sites, and yurts, and will welcome groups for meetings and activities. Its brand-new RV spots have level concrete pads. Guests will enjoy the natural landscaping and onsite amenities such as the contemporary swimming pool and splash pool, spacious entertainment pavilion, and a concierge service.

Sky View Campground, Loveland, Colorado—Opening May 2022

Sky View is a 6-acre campground located at Carter Lake Reservoir, about 30 miles north of Boulder, Colorado. The 1,100-acre reservoir is surrounded by 1,000 acres of public lands. Managed by Larimer County Natural Resources, it will welcome 120 people at full capacity and was constructed to cater to large groups, RVs, and tents, with accessibility features for those with limited mobility. Campers can rock climb, fish, participate in water sports, and even scuba dive.

Sky View has 15 individual electric campsites grouped into three “pods” (five sites per pod), which can accommodate up to 40 people per group pod. All are RV accessible and have potable water. Vault toilets, a large pavilion, communal fire ring, and viewing area are also onsite. Reservations are now open—to reserve a spot, visit larimercamping.com.

Village Camp Outdoor Resort Flagstaff, Bellemont, Arizona—Opening June 2022

Just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, on 30 acres surrounded by national forest, Village Camp Flagstaff is set to open in the summer of 2022 with nearly 500 sites. Expect modern and full hookup RV sites; canvas safari tents with bathrooms, kitchens, heat, and A/C; and fully furnished wooden cabins with cable and high-speed internet. Its long list of amenities includes a clubhouse, fitness center, kids splash pad and play area, event lawn with a concrete amphitheater, sports courts, and a bistro with an ice cream station.

Under Canvas Bryce Canyon, Widtsoe, Utah—Opening June 2022

At 7,600 feet in elevation, Under Canvas Bryce Canyon sits on 750 acres of high mountain plains and will offer a range of 50 upscale safari-style canvas tents on elevated decks surrounded by a juniper forest. Take in expansive views of John’s Valley—including Mount Dutton to the west and Utah’s red rocks to the east. Amenities will include ensuite bathrooms in every tent, king-sized beds with luxury linens, outdoor dining, USB battery packs, and complimentary camp programs such as morning yoga.

Gulf Shores RV Resort, Gulf Shores, Alabama—Opening September 2022

You’ll find Gulf Shores RV Resort, RVC Outdoor Destinations’ latest offering, near an inlet of the Alabama coastline. It’s set to boast more than 400 dedicated RV sites, the majority being back-in waterfront to take advantage of the property’s stocked fishing lakes. In addition, it will offer a range of luxury glamping tents and cottages for rent. In preparation for its grand opening, the resort will offer special reservation rates and packages.

AutoCamp Catskills, Catskills, New York—Opening Fall 2022

The Hudson River Valley and its proximity to many hiking trails is the second East Coast location for AutoCamp, which specializes in modern, fully outfitted glamping accommodations. AutoCamp Catskills, located between New York’s Saugerties and Woodstock, just 90 minutes from New York City, will feature 65 Airstream trailers and 10 cabins, canvas tents, and “Basecamps,” which combine Airstream suites with canvas tents and sleep up to six adults.

You can look forward to the clubhouse with an indoor fire pit, plunge pool, hot tub, complimentary bikes, and weekly activities like beverage tastings with local businesses. Dogs are welcome (for a set fee) and all accommodations are fully equipped with towels, linens, basic cookware, and a fire pit with a grill.

Sun Outdoors Sugarloaf Key, Key West, Florida—Opening Late 2022

A deluxe makeover is on deck in Key West with the announcement of Sun Outdoors Sugarloaf Key (formerly Lazy Lakes RV Resort) in partnership with Blue Water Development. The secluded property sits alongside a 7-acre saltwater lake and is surrounded by state parks and mangroves, yet it’s located just minutes away from the hub of Key West. Guests can enjoy water sport rentals, local food trucks, community campfires, and more.

Blue Water’s plans include an over-water walkway around the lake, revitalized landscaping, and an enhanced pool area. Sun Outdoors Sugarloaf Key will feature 95 campsites with a mixture of both premium RV sites—complete with palapas—and bright and airy park model vacation rentals.


There are a few other new campgrounds on our radar, including an RVC Outdoor Destinations RV resort in Sandusky, Ohio, set to break ground in the summer of 2022; South Carolina’s Big Rig Friendly RV Resort near Columbia that’s opening in March; and RJourney’s latest RV park venture near Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon, with an opening date in late summer.
