Picking up from our last “road trip,” we thought it was fitting to do short a South West tour from San Diego to Bisbee, AZ.
San Deigo to Boulder Oaks Campground – Campo, CA
Distance: 50 miles
Boulder Oaks is so close to San Diego, you could either skip this stop or go here for a weekend getaway. Conveniently located right off the I-8 freeway and along the Pacific Crest Trail, this campground isn’t very busy and has corrals if you’re lucky enough to have horses in tow.
Boulder Oaks to Painted Rock Petroglyph Site & Campground
Distance: 233 miles
Stop for the night and “view an ancient archaeological site containing hundreds of symbolic and artistic rock etchings, or ‘petroglyphs,’ produced centuries ago by prehistoric peoples.” – BLM
Painted Rock Petroglyph to Twin Peaks Campground
Distance: 101 miles
A must see when in southern Arizona, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is the only place in the US where Organ Pipe Cactus grows wild.
Twin Peaks Campground to Gilbert Ray – Tucson, AZ
Distance: 106 miles
Gilbert Ray County Park has both wildlife and star gazing opportunities. While you’re there, be sure to visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
Gilbert Ray to Queen Mine RV Park – Bisbee, AZ
Distance: 106 miles

Bisbee Arizona is a quirky mining town where the streets are lined with Victorian style houses and art galleries. Queen Mine is a tiny little park that overlooks both the mine and the town.
